So, we’ve decided to start a fun new weekly blog entry where we share with you the every day (and not-so-everyday) wines that we drink each week. Nothing here is pre-planned but simply what gets pulled out of the cellar on any given day, for any given reason.

We believe that wine is a communal experience and we want you, our Wine Bounty community, to enjoy it with us. In the end, we make the hard decision of deciding which wine was the “best” that week. We emphasize the air quotes on this one since it’s based on total bias. So many factors go into this difficult choice, such as timing, who we drink with, the depth of our conversation, what the environment was like, how we feel in the moment and, of course, the wine itself. We’re not professional wine critics and we don’t ever plan to be; that’s a tough job sorting through personal bias and we’ll leave it to these folks (Wine Rating Encyclopedia). But what we do promise, is to always tell you what biases we believe came into play. Again, a glimpse into our everyday wine drinking.

Weekly Wine Round-Up

Great bottles all around this week but the 2018 Massican “Annia” from Napa Valley stole the show.  It was the only white tasted this week — which probably gave an unfair advantage in distinguishing itself from the pack.  We also opened it on a Friday evening watching the sunset — which again, unfair advantage — but so much of our joy from wine comes from circumstances.  So, yes, unapologetically biased but oh-so-good nonetheless.

4.2 Vivino Stars

A personal project of Larkmead’s legendary Cab maker Dan Petrowski, who was named Winemaker of the Year by the SF Chronicle.  Massican makes spectacular whites that are unlike any other in California and “Annia” uniquely blends varieties most often found in Italy (Tocai Friulano & Ribolla Gialla) with a touch of Chardonnay.  Fresh and subtle with notes of lemon rind and a green apple finish that goes on for days.  We could easily drink this by the gallons on a hot day if it wouldn’t land us in the hospital.
