On my last trip to Paris (pre-pandemic), I stopped into a little wine shop (LQV Paris) that came highly recommended. I told the host that I needed two bottles to take back to the US. I was looking for something unique, fabulous, and challenging to locate outside France.
One of those bottles I carefully packed in my suitcase was the 2009 Peyre Rose Clos des Cistes from none other than the “Diva of Syrah,” Marlène Soria. 90% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 100% fabulous. Domaine Peyre Rose’s minimalist approach, organic focus, and extended élevage (8-10 years in barrel/bottle), shows how Marlène, a self-taught winemaker, is a master. Taking nature’s beauty and handing it to us in a bottle.
