On July 20th, 2024, the vibrant Mentirosa Resto-Bar in Santa Ana, California, came alive to celebrate “Fiesta del Vino,” a remarkable event hosted by the Mexican American Vintners Association (MAVA) and the Power of One Foundation. This exclusive gathering was not only a feast for the senses, offering premium wine tastings from noted Mexican-American owned California wineries, but also a meaningful charity event supporting Santa Ana’s Mariachi Youth Program.

A Night Dedicated to Empowering Youth

The Mastery Mariachi Program supported by the Power of One Foundation — in collaboration with Mariachi Los Reyes and the City of Santa Ana — aims to nurture aspiring young musicians by providing comprehensive training in the art of mariachi music. The program is designed to enhance cognitive abilities, academic performance, and emotional resilience among youth by immersing them in their cultural heritage through music. Participants, ranging from ages 9 to 21, are given opportunities to perform, gain confidence, and connect deeply with their cultural roots, all while preserving the rich tradition of mariachi.

An Exquisite Wine Tasting Experience

The evening featured a curated selection of wines from several MAVA wineries, each bringing its unique flair and story to the event:

  • Seis Soles Wine Co.: Known for its handcrafted wines from Lodi, Seis Soles combines modern techniques with traditional methods to create wines that embody the rich terroir of California.
  • Casa Martinez: This winery is celebrated for its elegant and aromatic selections, such as the Camila Pinot Noir, which offers a smooth tasting experience with notes that delight the senses.
  • Honrama Cellars: With a deep heritage rooted in authenticity and tradition, Honrama Cellars brought a rich array of robust wines that reflect the passion and history of the winemakers.
  • Aldina Vineyards: Committed to quality and innovation, Aldina Vineyards showcased wines that are both rich in flavor and deeply connected to the land and its history.
  • Delgadillo Cellars: Known for its classic Napa Valley offerings, Delgadillo Cellars impressed with well-aged Cabernet Sauvignon, a testament to their dedication to fine winemaking.
  • Encanto Vineyards: This winery offered a magical tasting experience with wines that capture the enchanting landscapes of Napa Valley, each bottle a tribute to the artistry of winemaking. The 2006 Cab Reserve from Knights Valley was ethereal.

A Celebration of Culture and Community

Beyond the wine, “Fiesta del Vino” was a vibrant celebration of culture and community. Attendees had the opportunity to mingle with fellow wine enthusiasts and supporters of the arts, all while enjoying an amazing mariachi performance by Angel Ng. The event highlighted the importance of preserving cultural traditions and supporting future generations through music and community involvement.

“Fiesta del Vino” was not just an evening of indulgence in fine wines; it was a heartfelt celebration of culture, community, and charity. Attendees directly contributed to the empowerment of young musicians and the preservation of mariachi culture. The event underscored the profound impact that music and community support can have in shaping futures and preserving cultural identities. Cheers to “Fiesta del Vino,” where every sip of wine was a step towards a brighter future for young talents.
