The 2021 Rodnick Farm Vineyard Old Vine Mourvèdre from Chalone opens with ripe cherries, wild strawberries, and candied violets, laced with orange blossom and subtle floral lift. This supple, medium to full-bodied Rhône beauty delivers the variety’s signature structure and freshness, with impressive purity, depth, and a long, mineral-driven finish shaped by the site’s granite and limestone soils. Whole-cluster fermented and aged in neutral oak, it reflects the cool 2021 vintage’s finesse and elegance. Reminiscent of Bandol’s refined Mourvèdres, yet distinctly Californian in its vibrant fruit. Chill slightly and pair with grilled lamb chops or wild mushroom risotto.
