Fontodi’s Flaccianello della Pieve 2022 is a **quiet, polished** Sangiovese that trades overt power for finesse. It opens with dark cherry, plum, blackberry, violet, and a touch of spice, leather, and incense, with subtle oak in the background.
The palate is full and layered but feels **lither** than some recent vintages, with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, mineral-tinged finish. It has the depth and structure you’d expect from one of Tuscany’s benchmark Sangiovese, though in 2022 it comes across a bit more restrained and poised than monumental.
Serve with bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled lamb, or a rosemary-roasted pork shoulder.
