2015 Domaine Marcel Deiss • Grand Cru Schoenenbourg (WA 98)
The 2015 Grand Cru Schoenenbourg opens clear, intense, precise and floral on the nose, with concentrated lemon confit and smoky gypsum flavors. This 2015 is really concentrated on the nose and displays a gorgeously fresh and vegetal greeniness. Sweet, finessed and lush on the creamy textured palate, this is a very precise and concentrated Schonenbourg with a very long, intense and seductive finish. There is great elegance, finesse and complexity here. Very salty. This is a great long-distance runner.
2015 Domaine Marcel Deiss • Grand Cru Mambourg (WA 97)
Reflecting the warm and dry vintage as well as the very hot vineyard, the 2015 Grand Cru Mambourg offers a clear, deep and aromatic bouquet with concentrated lemon aromas along with smoky flavors of crushed stones. Pure, fresh, super lush and ripe on the palate but still precise, finessed and elegant, this is a rich, intense and very aromatic Mambourg with a remarkably fine structure and huge aging potential. This is a fascinating assemblage of power and purity, of ripeness and mineral finesse, concentration and transparency, structure and elegance. The 2015 is simply flowing over the palate and leaves nothing but salty minerals and the association of perfectly ripe fruits on your mind. Although it drinks very well already today (for fruit wine lovers), this Mambourg will gain complexity over the years if not decades. A great Mambourg that is not yet in the market. Deiss’s Mambourg was planted with 12,000 vines per hectare, and the leaf wall is just one meter high instead of the more common 1.80 meters. The objective in this very warm cru is to have low yields with just 14% of potential alcohol but real (phenolic) maturity and good acidity.
2015 Domaine Marcel Deiss • Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim (WA 96)
The 2015 Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is very intense, precise and deep on the nose and is more cool, spicy and earthy than the fruity 2014, displaying some green olive, avocado, tropical fruit and lemon flavors. The 2015 is full-bodied, sweet, finessed and elegant on the palate, provided with fine tannins, a good mineral grip and a stimulating bitterness in the finish. It is complex, finessed and elegant at the same time, very long and alluring. From this warm vintage this is a really stunning, gorgeous and seductive wine and great argument for the field blend.
