Poggiotondo Chianti Classico 2016 shows bright garnet color with a core of ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit framed by a ribbon of dried herbs and Tuscan scrub. The nose opens to floral lift—dried rose and violet—alongside sweet spice and a touch of tobacco that adds savory complexity.
On the palate it’s medium-bodied with vivid acidity and fine-grained tannins that carry flavors of sour cherry, dried fig and a mineral-tinged finish. The overall balance and clarity of Sangiovese make it reminiscent of classic, food-friendly Chianti Classico from a strong 2016 vintage.
Serve slightly below room temperature with tomato-based pasta, roast pork or aged pecorino.
